The Adventures of Broccoli Monkey
Brocoli Monkey woke up one morning and wondered: "Why am I a broccoli monkey? How did this happen?"
He looked out at the forest around him and thought, "Today is a beautiful day. But the mountains in the distance are being very silly, putting purple scarves all over thejmselves and making the clouds looks like flowers and ghosts."
He knew that he, too, could easily make himself look like other things. All he had to do was clap his hands twice and he could turn into anything he dreamed up. Just to have some fun while he was thinking about his question, he clapped twice, imagined he'd turned blue and sure enough, he turned his face blue!
Just for fun, he clapped twice again and turned himself back to green. But a strange little collar of red and black feathers suddenly appeared around his neck and he wasn't so sure he liked that!
He snapped his fingers twice and tried to become his regular self, Broccoli Monkey. Nope. It didn't work. He had to clap twice. Sure enough, there his old self was once again.
Just then, he heard a whistling through the trees. A familiar whistle only his best friend, Miles, could make. It was high and warbly and sounded like an egret, which was funny because Miles wasn't an egret. He was a Parrot Monkey and he, too, would change into whatever he dreamed just by clapping twice.
The two friends greeted each other with delight and realized it was exactly 1:13 - precisely the time when the forest began its beautiful sunset. This was always the highlight of their day. They turned quietly and watched the colors and shapes change, almost by magic. You had to pay attention to see all the details and the small ways they shifted. You didn't want to miss anything.
